Matt focuses his practice primarily on the resolution of California commercial property tax and real estate transfer tax controversies through negotiation and litigation. He has represented various clients from many different industries, including hotel, shopping centers, residential leasing, commercial office, solar power production, and professional sports teams. Matt has prosecuted tax appeals before the California courts, taxing authorities, and county assessment appeals boards.
Matt has advised on and litigated property tax and/or real estate transfer tax matters for a variety of high-profile properties in San Francisco, Los Angeles County, Santa Clara County, San Mateo County, and Alameda County, including the San Francisco Giants’ Oracle Park and the San Jose Earthquakes MLS Stadium. He has also represented several clients on property tax matters relating to solar power facilities.
Matt is a frequent speaker and author on California property tax issues, and has presented at the California State Bar’s Eagle Lodge West Conferences.
Matt received his J.D. from UCLA School of Law and earned his B.A. from UCLA, graduating summa cum laude with degrees in communication studies and political science. Before joining Vallejo, Antolin, Agarwal and Kanter LLP, Matt was an associate attorney at Morrison & Foerster LLP and Reed Smith LLP.
Outside the office, Matt enjoys hiking, baking, live music, exploring the Bay Area restaurant scene, and rooting for his favorite local sports teams and the UCLA Bruins.
