Mr. Antolin represents taxpayers in matters involving a wide range of state and local taxes, including corporate income taxes, personal income taxes, sales and use taxes, utility taxes, local business license taxes, property taxes, and real estate transfer taxes. Mr. Antolin focuses on resolving complex state and local tax controversies and advising clients on state and local tax ramifications of business transactions. Ed is also a strong advocate for his clients. He has extensive trial and appellate litigation experience. His clients include multinational corporations, start-ups, and high-net-worth individuals.
Mr. Antolin is a Chambers ranked nationally recognized leader in state taxation. He frequently speaks to national and local organizations and has lectured at UC Berkeley School of Law and Golden Gate University School of Law. He has addressed conferences sponsored by New York University, Georgetown University, the American Bar Association, California State Bar Association, Tax Executives Institute, Institute of Professionals in Taxation, and the Council on State Taxation. He has also served as an expert witness on state tax issues. He has been listed as a Northern California Super Lawyer each year since 2008.
Mr. Antolin’s past representations include:
Hunt-Wesson v. Franchise Tax Board, 528 U.S. 458 (2000). The United States Supreme Court unanimously held that California’s interest offset provision violated the Due Process and Commerce Clauses of the United States Constitution.
Northwest Energetic Services, LLC v. Franchise Tax Board, 159 Cal. App. 4th 841 (2008), and Ventas Finance, LLC v. Franchise Tax Board, 165 Cal. App. 4th 1207 (2008). In these cases, the Court of Appeal held that California’s LLC fee violated the Commerce Clause of the United States Constitution. In each case, the court awarded attorney’s fees.
Before co-founding this firm, Mr. Antolin founded Antolin Law Group, was a partner with Silverstein & Pomerantz LLP, and was an attorney with Morrison & Foerster LLP.
When not in the office, Ed enjoys hiking and running in the foothills of Mt. Diablo with his wife, Susan; spending time with his three children and two dogs; and exploring the local food scene.
